Where fatshion misfits, glamor queens, vintage babes, and sewing goddesses can feel perfectly at home! Gabba Gabba We accept you, we accept you, one of us!
Trixie was a beauty! She had a very high profile career in the theater and Vaudeville from the late 1800s until the 1930s. She was a very talented comic actress who was active in women's rights at the time. I have found real, dignified, pre WWII VINTAGE CHUBBY CELEBRITY ACTIVIST!!!
One of the BEST things about this beautiful chubby, folks, is that she PUBLICLY PROMOTED POSITIVE FEMALE BODY IMAGE!!! Trixie was woman way ahead of her time. What happened to her message? I bet there wasn't any other females there to back it up, so it got dropped. She tried to pave the way for fat acceptance in the 1900s! She is clearly someone we all should know about!
I read that she later took pride for being nicknamed "The Wide Load from Kansas"
Are you a misunderstood misfit? Well good! Do me a little favor and add this little blog badge to your blog page! Wear your misfit label loud and proud!

I have had merry little plans all year long to have the week off of work after Christmas. During that week I plan to have a sewing extravaganza. I will pretend I am a seamstress and everyday I will get up; have coffee and breakfast; and sew my ass off. I hope my dream comes true.
The beautiful, talented, vivacious, and sadly missed Cass Eliot.
Died in 1974 at age 32
Everything she wore was loud and proud and Divalicious! Sequins and frills and lace and fur and you name it! Bright colors and a beautiful smile and voice; she left an impact on 60s culture.
She is an icon for me for so many reasons. She is a fabulous singer, with style, and had a successful solo career after the Mamas and the Papas. She went after her dreams and never let being a fat woman keep her off the stage. Nor did she let it keep her from being a style diva. Where did she get her clothes in the 60s and 70s? Did someone make them? Did she make them? I would have loved to talk to her about so many things. Here's to you Cass Elliot.
Ok so you know the "stats" you get on your blog? Sometimes I see the weirdest search words that people entered, and then clicked on my blog as a result.
Here are this week's top 2 weird search words/phrases:
"fabolous and spectacular beatiful girls with black very busty"
Good Morning Creative Peoples:
I seem to have lost my mojo...tell me have you seen her? Tell me have you seen her?
Nothing creative has come out of me for weeks. Should I lock myself into the house until my mojo comes back?
Maybe she will come back when I have actually time to clear my head. I have that leopard dress planned. I started some pattern alterations on a 40s jacket for my Blondie dress this weekend. I spent 30 minutes pinning my pattern to the dress form trying to see how much of a full bust adjustment I need to do. Then I took it off and layed it flat on the table. I see that I need to put some more thought into it. Then my mojo went "BUH BYE." I have two parties this weekend so no sewing for me.
It's totally gone, man. Even when I am dressing in the morning I lost interest in making the glamor happen. Rah Row Shaggy. Mojo? Mojo? Where for art thou Mojo?
I know Roseanne Conner is not a real, living person. Despite this, she has had a real positive influence on me. In the 1990s I watched the TV show Roseanne in my teen years. I grew up with the Conner girls.
I grew up with a younger sister in a poor rural town in a middle class family with a mechanic father and a beautician mother. To me, this show was about my life.
On even a more personal note; Roseanne Conner showed me how fat people can have happiness. Her and Dan were fat and they were happy. Of course they had issues and had fights and such, but they didn't ever give up. Roseanne Conner would never let anybody put her down. She had confidence. She had a big mouth. She ATE FOOD on tv (last time you saw a tv character eat a bag of chips?). She wore what she wanted (or could afford). She wore makeup and styled her hair. She was a non-conformist. She cared about her appearance. She worked with what she had instead of trying to change herself. All of these things meant something to me.
Oh yea, Roseanne and Dan KISSED AND HUGGED AND FLIRTED AND TICKLED EACH OTHER AS TWO BIG FATTIES. TAKE THAT MARIE CLAIRE MAGAZINE. Long before there was a Mike and Molly. Ha Don't get me started on that shit. LOL
I wanted to be Roseanne Conner when I grew up.
Her clothes were your standard 90s Kmart and JC Penny sale items. She always managed to look so comfortable no matter what she wore. Of course, she was in her home lounging gear alot. But when she got a job at the diner I was in love with this outfit:
I thought she looked so adorable. even as a teen I was attracted to the retro style.
Totally cute with the hat. Her Halloween episodes were unforgetable and I looked forward to them every year. Later in the series she did an I love Lucy Spoof that was so hilarious. Roseanne Conner is the one of the top Vintage Chubbies of all time.
This ruler RULES! It's a French curve for pattern drafting. Right now I just freehand pattern changes. If I had one of these babies I could breeze through hip curves (insert fast car sound here). It royally pisses me off that Joanne Fabric does not carry these in stores. WTF? They carry every quilting ruler made by man, but a simple, basic french curve, nope! Pretty please Santa; I've been an awful good gurl. Emphasis on the awful, LOL.
I was in the recording studio today, and when I got home I had a box waiting for me: FROM TARINA TARANTINO!!!!
A month ago I got an email from Tarina's assistant. She told me that Tarina has read my little blog and she thinks I am cute and likes my style. So she wants to send me a little present!!
I have long been a fan of Tarina's accessories, and I have a pair of skull and crystal earrings of her brand. Everything she designs is AWESOME. She blends pretty, sparkling beauty with sassy punk, goth, and vintage inspirations. She is always coming out with something new and exciting! Also she is inspiring because she is a real DIY girl who has shown that you can be successful. Check her out here.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! I LOVE IT!!!! THANKS TARINA! I will never forget this, and it came at a time when I needed some cheering up. She sent a personal note with the gift too!
How sweet! True to Tarina, she wrote in shiny silver pen.
Friday Night I wore a red linen 1940s reproduction skirt (Simplicity pattern). The top is also a Simplicity patern. I have made it 3 times. This version has a cute collar (50s playsuit style). I don't know what that collar type is called. the fashion fabric is adorable girly skulls and hearts. I used ZIP TIES for boning inside! HAHA DIY MUTHAS!!! Husband was laughing because I rocked so hard that both my bra straps and my top straps fell down.
Saturday night was Blondie dress's debut
I wore a black vinyl belt with it.
Here is face-melting guitar solo time. this is right before I leaned backwards over the pool table while playing lead. haha. That was the only fun part of the show for me.
That's all babies! I have a New Year's Eve show next. I will post my show outfit for that next year.
I have been having quite a hard time lately. Winter depression =-[ and holiday/work stress. So to help out, I am going to post pictures of HAPPY VINTAGE CHUBBY LADIES.
This looks 40s by hair and clothes.I think they are family. I want to party with them. We will stick the babies with their daddies LOL. The warm winter coats and suits look cozy and keep them happy. On a related note. I want a floor length luxurious coat. Something Judy Garland would wear in movie. I think I will head out to Burlington the first chance I get. Maybe some pampering will help to get rid of the blahs.
I have recently had a bunch of crazy shiz happinin in my personal schedule so please forgive me for lack of sharing! I have really been missing sewing. Like bad. I had two shows last weekend and never got to the sewing room. If you like I can post some DIY clothes I wore to the shows...
Here is a Simplicity Pattern that I got on one of Joanne's 99 cent sales. Love em. This is one of their late releases. I instantly saw the classic late 40s in the blue dress at the top right. It's empire waist-ed and that's a total good thing for me. The fabric is the GORGEOUS RED LEOPARD TAFFETA shown here. Tremble at the glory of the leopard...HOT! The pictures are not showing it but it also has red glitter in the spots. whoa Mama!
I am on a mission from God. I am going to see all the movies Bette Davis made, ever. Yea. It's that crazy. LOL so her movie "Beyond the Forrest" from 1949 is NOT released on DVD. It's her last MGM film, and the one where she says "What a Dump." I have to see this film, the clips on you tube look soooo good. She plays a hardcore bitch in this one! OOO! I found a copy on VHS and bought it
(don't even ask what I paid for it; I am not proud).
Can't wait to watch my Bette!
(it's like a vintage two-for-one; a 40s movie on an 80s media squeeeee!)
LOOK AT THIS! It's like the mutha of all seam gauges. this seam gauge will beat up, chew up, and spit out all other seam gauges! It can also be used to iron down the corners of pockets. It has all the usual seam allowances. I think I would find it the most handy to quickly mark seams on patterns for alterations. Right now I use a piece of tape stuck to a ruler to mark 5/8. You know this would be good for french seams because I use 1/4 and then 3/8 and they are both on here! It's relatively cheep for $9. Me wants!
Made by Nancy Zieman. Funny story about her, mom used to watch her sewing show on PBS. I used to make fun of her. Kids are stupid. I would watch her today. How I have grown. Ha! Ok, I didn't even believe that last statement.
I a proud freak; a fatty, an artist, a musician, a dreamer, a non conformist. I love to create music, clothing, jewelry, and artistic things. This blog is to share some of these creations and inspire others who might be like myself. I draw inspirations from vintage clothing, movies, and art...with an emphasis on B movies and horror movies. I love psychobilly music and 40s, 50s music and well as Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie. I am a fatshionista at heart and I adore you if you add me to your blog roll!
