Hey Peeps!
I am not dead yet! I have two dresses made to show you from a 50s pattern (borrowed from Raven) and I went antiques rummaging and have goodies to share, and some hair pictures too! I am working on a massive post =-)
In the mean time. What do you think about those "antique places" that are just old shit made into new shit???
I watched "PICKER SISTERS" and wept. But never realized how bad the scene had gotten until this weekend...
Me...I HATE IT!
Interior designers! It's all their fault!
I want to see actual antiques! Not painted over, fake shabby sheik wanna be SHIT!
WHY? OH WHY?!
I went to 5 stores this weekend and two of them were just DUMB interior decorator bullshit. I have seen enough Shabby Shit and smelled enough candles for the rest of the year!
BRING BACK ANTIQUES!

I LOATHE shabby chic with a PASSION. Gimme the real deal - with scratches and nails and holes and dings and dents and CHARACTER and I'm a happy camper!
Can't WAIT to see your new frocks - HURRY UP ALREADY!!

Awww I'm torn on this subject. While I do hate, hate, hate taking real antiques and messing with them, I also LOVE shabby chic. But I only love it when I'm making something- like if I find a non-vintage but still old wooden table at a goodwill and turn it into a blue shabby chic table, that's cool. If someone else does it and starts to charge 600$ for something they basically made over for free (happens around here a lot) then I get pissed off.
Oh yay, finally someone else who calls it shabby shit!!! I do sell a bit of it, I have to admit, but I hate it, but it sells so well! I'd never ruin anything decent for it though, only crappy repro furniture and stuff that is too trashed to be anything else...just my 2 cents worth!
Susanita,
I hate painted shit shabby crap, If I want to paint I do it myself.
cant wait to see your new frocks amor.
Couldn't agree more. I hate the misuse of terms like 'antique' and 'vintage'. I've even seen brand new stuff labelled vintage - outrageous!
I'm with you on this!!!! Going to Maine for Thanksgiving, planning to go antiquing with my baby sister's partner. She and I are both hoping to find some good stuff and you know it will be much cheaper than we could get it for around here...
I agree with Meg Needles. I would NEVER touch a true antique. No spray paint. No paint then "distress". Leave it as is. Of course, if it's just old or a reproduction, it's going to be touched. lol. I read a lot of home decor blogs and it bums me out that they'll go through all the work of stripping then painting something and THEN distress it so it's old again. Really?
