Finished Project- Route 66 Dress Version 2!

mmmwha! How are you my sexy sewing/fashion friends? I am getting ready for a band show tonight! I have been also sewing a new dress that has turned out to be quite a muther! I made a video about how I altered the pattern. You will see!

Ok Ladies, you know what is AWESOME about SEWING? You can take your scraps and made MORE dresses! Seriously it is so cool. It spurs me to be more creative with prints and solids. Here is my Route 66 pattern cotton used in a different dress. The pattern is the same as my "Los Novios: Dia de los muertos" dress.
The bodice is the standard 4 dart fitted bodice with a shaped and faced neckline. The shoulders are dropped to form the mini sleeve.
It has a beautiful low-scoop neck back.
See the beautiful blue car? It was the inspiration for the blue color. If you remember the previous dress made with the Route 66 fabric (see my right side column) I focused in on the light green. This time I used the blue and it takes the print to a whole different level I think. Funny how that happens.
This pattern came with the beautiful pocket design. On the "muertos" dress I made them black contrast. This dress I decided to make the pockets blend in with the skirt.
You have to be close to see the pockets. I find them very handy!
Daaaaarlinks My profile is glamorous, no? Booty Time!
So some women may say NO to having two dresses with the same print-----me-----I say YES!
What a chance to showcase a favorite print in two fun ways!

Reader Poll- Should I sell this stuff to you?

Hey smexy ladies!

Quick question.....would anyone be interested in buying some of my USED handmade clothing? For instance, this knit skirt shown above with the little vintage kitchen appliance fabric? I have loads of tops and skirts that I MADE and don't Wear much. Mostly because I wear dresses more than tops and skirts. My size is roughly a size 26 top and 28 skirt in ready to wear. 52 Bust, 47 waist, 62 hip. Most of my stuff is graphic print in nature and rockabilly/punk/vintage influenced, of course. I would make the prices VERY reasonable.

My goal here is to let the clothes be WORN instead of sitting in my closet! GAH!
Other items:
this black pencil skirt from Burda patterns with skull embellishment

retro print blouse

What do you guys think?

New Fabric Purchase!

I must admit- not much about New Jersey impresses me- sorry if you are from New Jersey- I don't mean it personally, I am not impressed easily. I will say that Ocean City is quite nice every once and a while. I played a gig up there once...but I digress....

What I DO like about Jersey is J and O Fabrics! I buy from them all the time. I won a couple gift cards on their facebook page- one was 4th place in a retro design sewing contest (for my Monster Dress)

Anyhoo, here is what I am excited about!
I bought 9 yards yesterday- Yes I know that it is alot of effing money. But it's my Birthday! LOL
I cannot wait to make something from it! I want to do a purse or a shirt for my husband in addition to a dress.

I like that it is tea dyed. Makes it look old. And I ain't no white wearing kinda girl! I'm just too dirty to wear white!

I already have 2 new vestidos to show my sexi friends...stay tuned!

What do you think about 1930s faTshion?

That is my question!!! I obviously work well with 40s and 50s fashion. I have a high waist, large ass, a deep swayback, large bust, smaller chest...blah blah so the fitted bodice and wide flared skirt does wonders for balancing out my shape. I have pretty much perfected what I need to do to 40s and 50s patterns to make them work for me...so

 WHAT ABOUT 30's FATSHION???

I wear a getup like this every day. But obviously not an old one- I made my own from one of those Crownette Shaping slips. (look here) I sewed garter clips to it. I wear tights now, cause it's winter. I can clip the garters to my tights by pinching them. It works to keep the shaper slip in place too. I can also use thigh highs in this configuration.

Ok this should be enough shaping to pull off 30s Fatshion, but I need to really think about which way to make it work for moi!
First One I rule out: DROP WAIST

See how the body makes a triangle with the shoulder being the longest side? Perfect for inverted traingle shapes, however....me has a right side up triangle shape...no worky worky for me.

So we need to leave my waist where it belongs HAHA! What about a princess seam dress, those work on me!
I have a pattern close to this type.
It makes me think of the working girl, like the Joan Crawford character would wear.

Now What do we think about this ruffley cross-over wrap design?

I found one of these in the 40 bust range at an antique store. I don't know about this working for me. This is what I call the Jean Harlow girl, very fancy and fun. That's a lot of detail in the booboid region. I think I might give it a try; it could surprise me!

The length has to come up though, I like a bit shorter than tee length to show off some leg. These look like panel skirts. I don't really like how panel skirts drape on my big ass!

There may be some 30s styling in what I come up with: but I think I will leave out that ass hugging panel skirt, and just tame down my half circle skirt.
What other options do you think work for 1930s Fatshion?
